In partnership with the Aspen Art Museum, Intersect Aspen is pleased to  continue our “Collectors at Home” series for the third year.

Susan and Larry Marx began buying art in the 1960s, and their now extensive collection of postwar and contemporary art includes work by Willem de Kooning, Yayoi Kusama, Ad Reinhardt, and Mira Schendel, to name a few. All the while the couple has been acquiring works by younger contemporary artists, including Mark Bradford and Rachel Whiteread, in order to demonstrate the continuation of their chosen themes in the current artistic milieu.

Selections from their collection was shown in the 2002 exhibition, From Pollock to Marden: Post-War Works on Paper from the Collection of Susan and Larry Marx at the Aspen Art Museum, and then in 2012, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles mounted the exhibition Intimate Immensity: The Susan and Larry Marx Collection, which included highlights such as Joan Mitchell, Vija Celmins, Blinky Palermo, Jackson Pollock, Brice Marden, Kusama, Guston,Twombly Marc Bradford, and Eva Hesse. Speaking of their adopted hometown, Susan Marx told the Aspen Times, “Aspen has been a remarkable introduction and entrée into meeting so many other art collectors.”

This is a VIP event (VIP/All Access Pass required). Location to be confirmed.
