2024 Marks Intersect Aspen Art and Design Fair’s Most Successful Year To Date
Aspen’s Signature Fair Continues To Hit Milestones in Sales Alongside an Ever Growing Aspen ArtWeek
Intersect Aspen Continues Online with Artsy Through August 30, 2024
Aspen, CO - August 15, 2024 - Intersect Aspen Art and Design Fair (July 30 to August 3, 2024) is thrilled to announce that the 2024 event was their most successful fair in Aspen to date. This year's highlights included robust sales, stimulating conversations and active community engagement. For the first time, the fair celebrated Design alongside Art, marking a new chapter with their updated name: Intersect Aspen Art and Design Fair. The week featured thought-provoking themes such as The Environment and Social Consciousness, while also highlighting the Aspen Art Journey, with key voices and artists from the Roaring Fork Valley. To keep the momentum going and provide an opportunity to interested collectors, the fair continues online with Artsy through August 30, 2024.
The fair began on Tuesday, July 30 with a VIP/First Look at the fair and award ceremony with the inaugural Intersect Aspen Art and Design Artist Award, received by camera-less photographer, Meghann Riepenhoff. And closed with an After Party at Aspen Collective, one of Aspen’s newest galleries, in downtown Aspen on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
“We had a wonderful lineup of galleries, programming, cultural partners and community alignments. Our dealers reported strong sales through the five-day fair,” says Tim von Gal, CEO, Intersect Art and Design.
“The biggest markers of a fair’s success is when galleries are eager to return, attendees are enthusiastic about collecting and the program, and the community shows excellent engagement and provides positive feedback,” continues von Gal. “This year, everything aligned perfectly. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making Intersect Aspen 2024 an overwhelming success.”

BDDW (New York, New York, and Los Angeles, California, USA, and London, UNITED KINGDOM) sold 100 percent of their Aspen inventory.
Todd Merrill Studio (New York, New York, USA, noted sales highlights including: Anthropose, 2023, USA, by John Procario & Alex Roskin, paintings by Aurel K. Basedow (DE/IT) and sculptures by Curtis Fontaine (USA).
“We are grateful to the entire Intersect Aspen team for placing such a high emphasis on design, and executing the fair as a whole at a high level,” said Todd Merrill, of Todd Merrill Studio. “We were pleased with how the fair went from a lead and revenue perspective.”
Mastrangelo (New York, New York, USA), reported strong sales, highlighting the specific sale of a signature piece of their 2024 collection, the Patagonia Radius Console.
“We’re very happy and honored to have been included in Intersect Aspen’s inaugural design fair,” says Fernando Mastrangelo. “We chose to introduce our gallery, Mastrangelo, to the Aspen community with works that embody the aesthetic and feeling of Aspen’s natural beauty. We sold a handful of special pieces and cannot wait to return next year.”
ART Sales Highlights:
Art gallery sales were also stronger than ever including but not limited to significant milestones from Jackson Fine Art, Melissa Morgan Fine Art, Hilton Contemporary, HOFA, Corridor Contemporary, Slate Gray Gallery and Winston Wächter Fine Art.
HOFA (London, UNITED KINGDOM) reported:
“We had a successful show, selling a number of pieces to collectors both permanently residing in Aspen as well as to clients who visited the show from out-of-state,” says Alexander Pirinoli, Director of Sales, HOFA. “One of the highlights of our booth and of the fair in general, was BREAKFAST's interactive/kinetic piece World Skies Pink Sunsets, which received significant interest and sold on the opening night of the show.”
HOFA also reported selling Jan Kaláb’s, Burning Purple Medusa 623, 2023.
Hilton Contemporary (Chicago, Illinois, USA), noted strong sales of multiple works from world-renowned photographers Cristina Mittermeier and Paul Nicklen. Hilton Contemporary also unveiled the AI work of Ouchhh to the Aspen community for the first time. Ouchhh is a pioneer of data paintings and sculptures.
“Intersect Aspen has and continues to be a powerful experience for our gallery and this year, we sold to clients all over the world at the fair,” says Arica Hilton, Hilton Contemporary. “Chicago’s connection to Aspen is paramount and we continue to feel right at home in Aspen.”
Jackson Fine Art (Atlanta, Georgia, USA) reported the following:
“We are delighted with overall sales, but particularly the interest and sales generated around Abelardo Morell’s Colorado Tent Series, created in Snowmass in Sept. 2023,” says Alexandra Sachs, Jackson Fine Art. “The project was commissioned by the Denver Art Museum and supported through an artist residency at Anderson Ranch. It felt like a ‘full circle’ moment for Morell and us to be able to bring the work to Intersect Aspen. And to be able to place the work with local Aspen collectors. We are also so grateful and appreciative of the attention Intersect gave to Meghann Riepenhoff – the artist award, panel talk, press, etc. – all of this helped tremendously in creating recognition for her work.”
Slate Gray Gallery (Telluride, Colorado, USA) showing artwork exclusively from Topher Straus, reported excellent sales for their first time at the fair, especially Straus’ work of the Aspen local landscape.
“Participating in Intersect Aspen was truly the happiest moment of my life,” says Topher Straus. The fair was exceptionally well-organized, bringing together a caliber of collectors that made every second worthwhile. What stood out to me most was the camaraderie between all the participants—artists, collectors, and organizers alike. The sense of community and shared passion for art in Aspen is unparalleled, and it's something I deeply cherish about Intersect Aspen.”
Work from artist Zaria Forman (celebrated for her works documenting climate change in pastel), sold through Winston Wächter Fine Art (New York, New York, and Seattle, Washington, USA), in addition to works from Ethan Murrow.
Celebrating the community of Aspen:
In addition to strong sales, Intersect Aspen Art and Design Fair, was honored to celebrate the community that has supported the fair for the past fourteen years, and especially the fair over the past four years specifically under the new ownership of Tim and Dirk von Gal, who acquired the fair in 2020.
“We attribute the great success we experienced to properly aligning with and activating the local Aspen community,” says Tim von Gal, CEO, Intersect Art and Design. “Creating genuinely supportive relationships with local organizations serving Aspen allows us to be a part of this wonderful community and give back to those who have been incredibly supportive of our galleries and our fair.”
“Hosting the fair in a City of Aspen space and the support from the community, is indicative of Aspen’s appreciation of our commitment to serve this community all year,” says Tim von Gal, CEO, Intersect Art and Design. “We look forward to participating in the arts discussions and projects in Aspen and provide access to our wonderful galleries before and after the fair. There is no other place on Earth like Aspen. We are tremendously humbled by the overwhelming support we have received from all sectors of this community.”
Intersect Aspen Art and Design selected a new gallery in Aspen, Aspen Collective to join the 2024 fair. Aspen Collective, known for showcasing local artists, played a key role in leading discussions on two central themes: Social Consciousness and the Aspen Art Journey.
D.J. Watkin’s, owner and curator of the Aspen Collective served as inspiration behind the discussion surrounding Social Consciousness, which was defined as: the manner in which art intersects with shaping community and the world around us.
“When people are surrounded by the mountains, their creativity is unlocked, inspiring them to explore big ideas about culture, art, and the future,” says D.J. Watkins, owner of Aspen Collective.
In a fair programming highlight, D.J. Watkins, Sarah Roy (Red Brick Center for the Arts, Executive Director) and Aspen’s Mayor Torre discussed Social Consciousness and how art can serve as a vehicle to discuss and raise awareness to the important things in life and what communities and individuals care about most.
Intersect Aspen Art and Design Fair was also honored to support their newest cultural partner and beneficiary, Aspen Community Foundation. Since 1980, Aspen Community Foundation (ACF) has been investing in a future where everyone from Aspen to Parachute has equitable opportunities to thrive. To ensure this potential is accessible to all, ACF actively listens and learns about the region’s challenges, connects nonprofit and community leaders advancing solutions, and partners with donors and funders to catalyze community-led change.
In addition, Intersect Aspen Art and Design Fair was honored to feature its largest list of cultural partners to date in Aspen, including the following organizations:
