Intersections: New and Notable at the Aspen Art Fair
Highlighting New and Notable Exhibitors of Intersect Aspen
“Intersections” is a series of behind-the-scenes looks at the 2023 Intersect Aspen art fair, where we’ll meet at the intersection of art and exclusive content. Today we’ll highlight new and notable exhibitors coming to the fair.
John Riepenhoff, Skies (detail), 2022, acrylic, flashe oil on linen, 44 x 50 in (111.7 x 127 cm) BROADWAY
From mountain vistas just steps from the door, to exclusive events in the downtown core, eight new galleries are coming to town to add even more color to the Aspen Ice Garden for Intersect Aspen 2023. Just don’t tell them about the bears (yet).
BROADWAY
Debuting in Booth A3 and featuring the sculptural work of Olivia Erlanger, and blue-hued paintings by John Riepenhoff and Claire Oswalt.
C O U N T Y
Going all in on one California-based artist, C O U N T Y will showcase works exclusively by Petra Cortright. Her unique process of digital painting on anodized aluminum is worth stopping at Booth B10 for a closer look.
DEREK ELLER GALLERY
One of two galleries showcasing JJ Manford, DEREK ELLER GALLERY combines two-dimensional works from Jameson Green and David Korty with textiles from Julia Bland, all employing bright color and playful subject matter.
Harper’s
JJ Manford’s work is also on view in Booth A9, as Harper’s exhibits four works by the artist, all a bit darker than his counterpart piece in Booth B3.
Morgan Lehman
Between found object art, gouache and geometric shapes in acrylic, there’s a lot to take in when viewing Booth A14. The wide variety of styles from exhibiting artists Sara Genn, Paul Villinski and Crystal Liu are not to be missed.
Rusha & Co.
The dynamic duo of Trulee Hall and Hannah Lupton Reinhard take over Booth A5 with paper mache, resin and extraordinarily colorful oil paintings (with Swarovski crystals!).
SAPAR Contemporary
SAPAR Contemporary joins Intersect Aspen all the way from New York City and Kazakhstan, showing everything from handmade wool carpets to oil on canvas in their Booth A11. Ask them how their desert landscape compares to Aspen!
Todd Merrill Studio
In Booth A10, it’s a three-dimensional bonanza! Check out a masterful combination of materials by Markus Haase, or other sculptures in wood, by John Procario and Yunhwan Kim, porcelain by Alice Riehl, or colorful vessels by Maarten Vrolijk and fiber collage by Erik Speer.
MARC STRAUS
Finally, while exhibiting gallery MARC STRAUS is no stranger to Intersect Aspen, the team is showing off the work of Natasha Das, Jeff Overlie and Anna Nero, all new artists in the program this year, in Booth B14.
So as you cruise the Intersect Aspen 2023 booths, be sure to give these Rocky Mountain region newbies a warm welcome to the Aspen Ice Garden, make sure they’re staying hydrated, and enjoy their dynamic offerings!
